Biography

YOLY ROJAS

Composer, musicologist, teacher and interpreter. Her creations have a personal signature inside different genres, which has allowed her to develop her career in various areas of music. Her catalog of works ranges from instrumental-symphonic music, electro-acoustic music, original music for cinema, music for dance and original songs within alternative modern genres such as rock, among others.

 

PhD in Music from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with mention: Cum Laude (Spain, 2015). She obtained a degree in Arts with honors: Magna Cum Laude, at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV). She was member of the Latin American Chair of Composition (IUDEM-FESNOJIV), she did the Master's in Music in the Composition Mention in the Simón Bolívar University, the Diploma in Musical Composition in the UCV and the Master in Music with the specialty of Contemporary Music and other music at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. He taught at the Teorías y Épocas de la Música and Música Latinoamericana at the UCV, Caracas; and , and Aesthetics of Music and Musical Culture and Creative Thinking at the TAI Arts University Center (Madrid). She studied singing and modern composition with Cesar Muñoz, and symphonic composition with Blas E. Atehortúa, Federico Ruiz, Diana Arismendi, Adina Izarra and Alfredo Del Mónaco. She has attended master classes with Marlos Nobre and participated in the A Tempo Festival workshop with Misato Mochizuki.


On the other hand she has made the original music of the films: Connexiones by Lídice Abreu; Alejando Colina by Carlos Bolívar; the short-films Versus, Hostil and Infernum by Alejandro Hernández; Él by Andres Zawisza and Lidice Abreu, Alejandro Cortina by Carlos Bolívar and Justina by Lídice Abreu.

During her career she has been awarded several distinctions: her work Apok Paru won the Latin American Contest Matiz Rangel Editores (Colombia, 2006), Huehanna for symphony orchestra was selected for the 6th Encounter of Novel Composers (Caracas, 2007), He received the 2012 Municipal Cinematography Award for the original music of the short film Él and her work Warao was selected to be part of the World Music Days in Lithuania-Austria 2013.

 

In the area of rock has developed as an interpreter in various bands; among them she performed as vocalist, guitarist, composer and producer in the group Butterfly (2011-2014); and vocalist, guitarist and arranger of the duo Summertime (2014) and duo Wanted (2015). Currently, she develops her solo work as a singer-songwriter in experimental symphonic-electronic rock such as Yoly Rojas' Project. She also works as a singing and modern piano teacher in Semblanzas: School of Dance and Music (Madrid).
